Making a cookie comeback
‘90s kids now have a new reason to rejoice.
Dunkaroos are coming back.
That’s right, the widely popular lunchbox item is coming back to the U.S. snacks aisle this summer to satisfy the most devoted fans across the country.
The lunch table is the ultimate staple of ‘90s nostalgia – where meaningful friendships were made, snack allies were formed, and critical trades brought kids together over their taste buds. Growing up, there wasn’t a happiness that came close to the sight of Dunkaroos packed in your lunchbox.
“We’re thrilled to relaunch Dunkaroos in the U.S. after years of it only being available in Canada,” says Jeff Caswell, president of Snacks at General Mills. “For those who grew up in the ‘90s, the original cookie-frosting combo represents the taste, color and fun of being a kid during that decade. We know there’s a lot of love for Dunkaroos, and fans everywhere have been asking for it. We’re excited to help ‘90s kids relive all the best parts of childhood.”
Dunkaroos was first introduced to the market in 1992, ushered in by slam-dunk mascot Sydney the Kangaroo.
Originally, the graham cookies came in five different shapes accompanied by chocolate or vanilla frosting. By 1993, Dunkaroos had introduced four new flavors of frosting, including Chocolate Chip, Cinnamon, Peanut Butter and widely-recognized Rainbow Sprinkles.
While fans in Canada have been able to enjoy the treat more recently, dedicated Dunkaroos fans in the U.S. have been begging for the return of their favorite snack.
Following years of rumors and speculation, Dunkaroos is making an epic comeback with the most requested and beloved Dunkaroos flavor, Vanilla Cookies and Vanilla Frosting with Rainbow Sprinkles.
It’s clear that ‘90s nostalgia has a place in everyone’s hearts, but nothing invokes sentiment like your favorite childhood snacks … so get your taste buds ready for this sweet return.
